Bookends

The thing I've discovered today is that Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel is unlike any of their other albums.  Influenced, in terms of sheer wackiness in parts, by albums from the Beatles and the Beach Boys from around that time, the album is something of a quirky concept album.

There's lot's going on and I haven't got my head around it fully for a complete review, but it's interesting and, if you aren't already familiar with it, I'd give it a listen.

  1. Ah, Tim you just took me back to good old childhood. Grew up on S & G and this is a great album. If nothing else you've jolted me into thinking that looking back over the old masters is just as rewarding as listening to the new stuff....

  2. Thanks for commenting Paul. Yes, I do as much delving into old stuff as I do listening to new records.

We had Simon and Garfunkel on at home when I was growing up too, but it was the Bridge Over Troubled Water album. It was the first record I'd ever seen with the lyrics printed on the sleeve and I used to follow it all the way through. I'd never heard Bookends right through even though the CD is mine and I've had it a long time. It's in a little box set of all their albums. They're great.
